You Can Get a Gum Graft to Heal Receded Gums

If you’ve looked in the mirror recently and noticed that your teeth are longer than they used to be, your gums have probably been receding for a good while now. Several conditions can cause gum recession, including tartar buildup, gum disease, and brushing too hard.

A receding gumline is what happens when the gum tissue surrounding the teeth pulls away from them, leading to more of the tooth and root being exposed. It’s one of the most common dental problems, affecting up to twelve out of a hundred people, often without even knowing.

Since receding gums happen very gradually, many people don’t even realize it’s happening to them until the gums have receded a long way. If left untreated, gum recession can lead to much more severe problems. However, grafting gum tissue can correct gum recession and prevent more serious issues from occurring.

There are several different kinds of grafts, normally defined by where the tissue comes from. It can be taken from a tissue bank, from the roof of your mouth (either the top layer or a deeper layer), or we can stretch a flap of gum to cover your tooth roots more.
